Ian Wright is set to cycle more than 450km across Tanzania over five days, joining Team Transaid for the charity’s Kilimanjaro to Coast Cycle Challenge.
The journey runs from the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro to the Indian Ocean and includes more than 2,700m of climbing. Riders will also face high temperatures, demanding terrain and the fatigue associated with sustained daily distances.
The fundraising effort supports Transaid’s work across sub-Saharan Africa. The organisation focuses on safer roads, stronger transport systems and sustainable mobility, including transport that helps communities reach healthcare, education, employment and essential services.
Peter MacLeod, a Transaid Ambassador and Wright’s colleague, has previously travelled through Tanzania. He said that seeing the country’s distances, roads and terrain had sharpened his understanding of the practical barriers faced by people who depend on transport.
Wright is completing final training and equipment checks before departure, but remains slightly below his fundraising target. Contributions can be made through his campaign page.
