Ewals Cargo Care is adding 27 Volvo FH Aero trucks to its UK operation as part of a planned replacement programme. The investment is intended to improve fleet efficiency, driver comfort and long-term sustainability.
Five trucks have been delivered, with the remainder expected at approximately five vehicles per week. Each will be based and operated in the UK, replacing older units rather than expanding the company’s fleet strategy beyond its normal renewal cycle.
The FH Aero is new to Ewals’ UK operation, but the model is already used by the company’s continental European businesses. Its aerodynamic cab is designed to improve airflow, while European rules allowing a slightly longer cab support the design. Camera mirror systems replace conventional mirrors and help reduce aerodynamic drag, with potential benefits for fuel consumption and emissions.
The purchase decision was based on the balance between vehicle price and running costs. The trucks also include equipment focused on visibility, comfort and ease of operation, factors that matter for long-haul drivers and can support retention and performance.
When the programme is complete, the UK division will operate approximately 90 trucks. It will retain a mixed fleet supplied by several leading manufacturers, making the Volvo order a targeted technology and replacement decision rather than a full fleet standardisation.
