The Port of Gdańsk handled more than 8 million tonnes of cargo in August for the first time. The monthly total was 13.3% above August 2025, reinforcing the Polish port’s position in Baltic logistics networks.
Year-to-date throughput reached 57.7 million tonnes in the first eight months of 2026, up 10% year on year. The figure also marked an increase from July’s 7.9 million tonnes.
Several cargo segments contribute
General cargo rose 21%, adding almost 470,000 tonnes compared with the previous August. Container tonnage increased 15%, while container volumes measured in TEUs rose 16%.
Liquid fuels remained the largest category at 3.9 million tonnes, up 5% and accounting for almost half of the monthly result. Ore volumes surged 311% and grain increased 90%. Other bulk cargo declined 12%, making it the only category to record a fall.
The diversified growth is relevant to manufacturers, commodity handlers and freight operators because it indicates demand across containerised, bulk and energy-related flows. After eight months, liquid fuels represented approximately 26 million tonnes and general cargo 20.8 million tonnes. Continued investment in port and inland connections could support further capacity growth. If current activity continues, Gdańsk is on track for a stronger 2026 performance.
