Mosca launches 35% PCR polypropylene strap

Packaging users are being urged to prepare for a change to the UK Plastic Packaging Tax taking effect on 1 April 2027. The 30% recycled-content threshold will count post-consumer recycled (PCR) material, while pre-industrial recycled content will no longer qualify.

In response, Mosca has introduced a grey polypropylene strap containing at least 35% PCR. The level exceeds the UK threshold and aligns with the 35% minimum expected for transport packaging under the proposed Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation.

PCR Strapping

The product is intended to help manufacturers, distributors and logistics providers address compliance without compromising pallet security. It is designed for automatic and semi-automatic strapping machines, including Mosca equipment, allowing users to change consumables without immediately replacing machinery.

The grey colour reflects the composition of post-consumer feedstock, which can contain pigments, labels and printing inks. Mosca also offers PET strapping with high PCR content for heavier-duty applications.

The new strap is expected to be available in autumn. An early trial programme is planned, with stock held in Nottingham and same-day despatch intended to support supply continuity.
