Neovia uses GPS to control returnable logistics assets

Neovia Logistics has deployed GPS tracking across a fleet of returnable roll cages and tote boxes used to deliver vehicle parts to BMW Group UK dealerships. The system, implemented by Peak Technologies using Sensolus, covers a network of more than 230 dealerships.

Before the project, around 40% of the returnable fleet, valued at roughly £320,000, was at risk of disappearing from the returns cycle. Barcodes showed when equipment left a Neovia facility but could not provide visibility once third-party carriers took over. The new system has reduced annual asset exposure by up to £800,000, according to the companies.

BMW Group UK required GPS-based asset tracking as part of contract renewal. Neovia selected Sensolus following a tender launched in December 2025 and brought the solution into operation across 5,000 assets in under four months.

The compact Sensolus 1110 tracker is fitted to roll cages without modifying sorting equipment. Geofenced locations record arrivals and departures, while asset profiles can generate alerts if a cage changes orientation in transit. Settings can be updated remotely.

Tracking has also supplied time-stamped movement records, helping return previously missing cages and clarify accountability. Neovia is using the data to examine site dwell times, dock throughput, warehouse efficiency and asset movement patterns. A subsequent batch of 3,500 tote boxes and 1,500 roll cages was prepared for tracking within four to five weeks.
