REWE expands service coverage for high-volume fresh distribution

REWE is reinforcing the operational resilience of its Oranienburg distribution centre through a broad support agreement with Cimcorp. The German facility handles more than 650,000 units on a typical day and supplies over 370 supermarkets and 580 stores.

That scale makes equipment availability a business priority. Fresh products must reach stores within narrow delivery windows, particularly in major cities, where a missed slot can prevent completion of the delivery and create financial losses.

Preventive and responsive support

The Success Services package combines scheduled maintenance with rapid response. Cimcorp technicians inspect the automated handling systems twice a year, assess wear and fatigue, carry out essential maintenance and share operating practices with REWE’s employees.

Remote system support provides specialist diagnosis when local teams cannot resolve a problem. For incidents requiring physical work, on-site technicians deliver corrective maintenance and repairs. Service is available six days a week, with extended coverage for Sundays and public holidays when operational conditions require it.

The arrangement also covers the IT environment supporting the conveyor systems. Remote system management includes antivirus protection, network administration, database oversight and ongoing monitoring intended to strengthen reliability and identify risks early.

REWE’s model combines internal capability with external escalation. Dedicated technicians are trained to manage the system, while Cimcorp remains available for issues beyond the site team’s capacity. The approach also responds to labour shortages and the physical demands associated with warehouse operations by allowing employees to focus on higher-value activities.

Matthias Menzel, general manager at the Oranienburg site, says reliable deliveries depend on partners that can react with the same urgency as the fresh-food market. For Cimcorp, the agreement illustrates how service continuity is becoming a core part of automated logistics investments rather than an afterthought.
